ACP-Therapy
Autologous Conditioned Plasma (ACP) therapy is a form of platelet-rich plasma treatment that uses components of the patient’s own blood. A small blood sample is taken and processed in a centrifuge to separate plasma containing a concentrated level of platelets. This plasma is then injected into the affected joint, tendon, or surrounding tissue.
Platelets contain growth factors and other biologically active proteins involved in the body’s natural healing processes. ACP therapy aims to support these processes and may help reduce pain and improve function. It is used particularly for mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis and selected tendon disorders. Clinical studies have shown encouraging results for some conditions, especially knee osteoarthritis, although individual responses vary and the evidence is less conclusive for other indications.

Because the treatment is prepared from the patient’s own blood, allergic reactions are unlikely. Temporary pain, swelling, or bruising may occur after the injection. As with any injection, there is also a small risk of infection or injury to nearby structures. A medical assessment is therefore necessary to determine whether ACP therapy is appropriate.

In Germany, ACP therapy is generally not covered by statutory health insurance and is usually offered as a self-pay service. Some private health insurers may reimburse the costs, depending on the individual policy. Patients should confirm coverage with their insurer before treatment.
