Acupuncture –
needles against the pain

Our orthopaedic practice in Tutzing offers professionally certified acupuncture treatment. This healing method of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has proven to be particularly effective in the treatment of pain and functional disorders of the spinal column and joints.

For centuries, treatment with fine needles – acupuncture – has been one of the pillars of TCM, alongside Chinese medicinal herbal therapy.

Our specialists at our orthopaedic group practice in Tutzing have attended numerous courses spanning more than 350 hours of acupuncture with emphasis on the musculoskeletal system.

Acupuncture helps with discomfort and pain

Treatment with fine needles has very few side effects and can be very effective against pain and functional disorders of the spine and joints – including shoulder and arm problems, migraine, head and neck pain, tendinitis, spinal pain or slipped discs, osteoarthritis or chronic muscle tension.

How acupuncture treatment works

According to TCM, pain is an expression of a disharmonic flow of the body’s own life energy, called Qi (pronounced ‘Chī’). Acupuncture points provide access to influence this energy flow system. The most common way to reach Qi is to position fine metal needles on specific points of the body. The needling influences the channels and meridians. According to traditional ideas, this can alleviate blood congestion, Qi stagnation or Qi deficiency.

Needle acupuncture is almost painless and is applied to the arms, legs, spine, head and ear for 30 minutes with the patient sitting or lying down throughout the whole time. As a rule, after 3 to 5 minutes of treatment, a positive effect on pain and movement disorders can be expected. On average, up to 10 sessions are required for a complete therapy cycle.

Government health insurance company (gesetzliche Krankenkasse)

The government health insurance company (gesetzliche Krankenkasse) pays for acupuncture treatment if the wear and tear of the knees or spinal column is radiologically proven and if the symptoms have been present and treated by a medical doctor for more than 6 months.

Acupuncture of the cervical spine, thoracic spine or other joints is not paid for by the government health insurance company (gesetzliche Krankenkasse), but we offer it as a private service.
